What is CEC and how is it important in soil sampling?

The CEC(Cation Exchange Capacity) of the soil is the ability of soil to absorb and exchange cations such as Ca, Mg, Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn, NH4+, H, Na, or K.

When sampling fields we found that having the CEC will be the most helpful when defining our zones of moisture/ soil types.
